What aspect of the article interested me most?
I liked the part on higher-order thinking skills. I think it is really true. In math, you not only need to know how to do something, but why you do it that way. I'm not sure that higher-order thinking skills are easily tested, but they are important. Especially if you plan to do upper level mathematics classes in college. Also, higher-order thinking math problems are great practice for learning how to think, how to solve problems and how to think about problems logically. This skill can be applied to all aspects of your life!

How Teaching Matters
Why do Teachers matter "most" and how do I expect to fill this role?
Part 2
Teachers are a huge role model to their students. According to Wong, parents and teachers are the biggest role models in children's lives. Therefore it is important to live up to the model. Teachers should be enthusiatic, encouraging, well organized, well structured and fair. It's also important for teachers to make connections with all their students. This includes special needs kids, slow learners, quick learners, ELL kids, and low SES kids. I hope to set a good example for all my students. I also hope to find and highlight the strenghts of each of my students.

Part 1
The most important thing a teacher can do is to motivate students to learn. This includes getting them excited about the material, current events/research, and real-life applications of the subject area. In mathematics, students need motivation on why math is important in the real world. A basic level of mathematics (algebra in particular) is necessary to function in the adult world. However, in reality, most people do not use upper level mathematics in their daily lives. However, what mathematics does teach us, is how to think. Mathematics teaches us to think logically, and how to solve a problem. I use problem solving techniques all the time, particularily in project management, and even in household management. Motivating students to learn mathematics might be as simple as introducing the concepts in terms they already understand (like dollars/hour, and calculating their GPA as a weighted average). Then the students will see how math does help.
Don't forget about those of us who do use math in the real world. A solid mathematics understanding can open doors to advenerous careers in science, medicine, and engineering among all sorts of other professions.
